Which unit do you like to use as a hero?
I'm not using an actual poll as too many options would be needed and it would look ridiculous. Also this way you can name a few instead of just one.

Depends on how the hero's peronality and skills in combat are. My favourites though is Sieur de Metz, Alexander Nevski, Reynald de Chatillon and Joan of Arc. I'll name more when I've had some time to think it rhough more

I like to use little bands of heroes to add more strategy. These are some of the ones I often use:
Elite Skirmisher Longbowman Huskarl Long Swordsman Hrolf the Ganger (He attacks like a maniac)
I'm not a fan of these however:
Teutonic Knights (Too good at melee and tediously slow) Cavalry/Cavalry Archer (Too fast, can run away from enemies) Harald Hardraade (Just plain weird) Siege Weapons ("And then Alf the Siege Onager went to market...")

Yes, that makes things more interesting. I use huskarls very often as well, but mostly as common soldiers.

Oh, let's see: I usually never have a main unit hero, more like a party of people. Here's some I like: Archer: Yep. That's right. An archer unit. Just a plain archer, no upgrades to Crossbowman or anything. I always like the simpler units. Infilitrator: Although it is beta, it's still quite nice to use. I like how it looks. Husky: ONLY, and ONLY IF there are no other Huskarls IN PLAYER 1's POSSESION, I will use this unit. Joan the Maid: I seem to like this unit much more than Joan of Arc. Arckey isn't really a hero, more like a villin. Teutonic Knight: ONLY for Generals and crap Monk: (of course, edited with GeniED2), this is probably one of my favorite units to use. I like how he looks. Woad Raider: That rough feeling we all love when we see those guys! Samurai: Looks cool, attacks awesome, Two-Handed Swordsman: We all know who I'm talking about. Of course there's more, but I'll add them later. EDIT: Units I will never use. Man-at-Arms: No. Sier Bertrand: He's ugly A Boat: Well, actually, I think I'll experiment with that... Champion: Ick. >_> Monkey: Ick. >_>

Nobunaga. He strikes twice as fast as an ordinary Samurai.

Well, I actually like using the Man-at-arms as a bit of a hero, since to me it has the epitomy of a typical medieval soldier with nice looking shield, scabbard and sword. I also do like to use the huskarl since it's just an awesome looking unit, probably slightly more dark-age than medieval, at least to my eyes anyway - primarily because of the large round shield.
As for real heroes, I've probably used William Wallace the most.

William Wallace. I like his messy hair and beard. Also El Cid, who I like probably more than any other hero there.
