Age of empires, by a long way.
I didn't exactly hear the Aok music because I don't have the cd but I remember playing a demo version sometime and the music from that. I believe it was hardly fitting at all.

Age of Empires by a long way. It's the only music that's almost free and I can listen to it whether I'm playing the game or posting at SWS. EDIT: Why did Microsoft and Ensemble take away the good music and replaced it with a bunch of MIDI files?

Just like Jatayu, I don't have the CD so up until now, I have yet to listen to the music.
So, between AoM and AoEIII (I don't have the AoE cd, either), I pick AoM.

You don't need the CD to hear AoE music. It's there as a bunch of MIDI files.

I vote for AoE as well, AoM coming second. I like all of the music from the games but AoE is absolutely most unique. The AoK music is good but not by far as good as those for AoM and AoE. the AoE3 music is good, but no place other than in the game itself. I can listen to the music from AoE in any situation really, it's simply great.

Then you have the wrong music. The one that came with the older CD was much better than the MIDIs.

I remember the AoE one and it was indeed very good, but I still think the original AoK one is my favourite.

Here's the first song in the AOE soundtrack. The rest are about that quality, just slightly more "grown up". You will need iTunes or something (not Windows Media Player) to listen to it, but I don't think that'll be much of a problem.
