One year already ! an occasion to tell you a bit more about me...
Yes, exactly one year ago (Feb. the 10th, 2008) I bought AOC for the first time!
Btw, it was for 2,59 £, including the Royal Airmail fees...
Two months before, I had downloaded the AOK Trial version, and was taken aback by the editor : how many possibilities with that ! That's why I wanted to have AOC. Otherwise I never was much of a game player, I just prefer books, sorry.
The first custom cpn I downloaded from the Blacksmith was ROTDMonk, from Punk Team. This one will remain forever my favorite, even before Ulio, because it already was warping the rules of traditional game play, like a parody, and that's what I like most. I can't take anything seriously, life's so short...
I then began to read all the FAQ design (yes, I did that), and some tutorials about AI scripting, taunts to triggers etc.
So that's how, six month later, I released my first cpx, a Parody of course, which was appreciated by Tanneur only...One of the reason, I suppose, is that it was so heavy, owing to the soundtrack, for I wanted the songs to give a clue of the mood of the cliché shallow Hero, instead of walls of text. (Imho, if you want to write a long and complex story, write a book and not a cpx.!)
But anyway, I am still fond of that one. The cut scene I did after was certainly better considering the map design, and much lighter, but it was meant only as a 'bonus aftermath' for the campaign. And I still wonder how it happened that it had more success; it was not playable after all...
Now it's time for me to have a try at modding.I begin with only graphics, because the problem with data editing in not only the time it takes to learn it, but also if you forget to change the data files it crashes the game. If you forget to install a modpack it just looks silly.
Btw,perhaps we could think of including a code in the cpx name in order to avoid that ? Like 'Kill-kill-kill *.cpx', the * meaning edited datas.
All that explains that the name of newbie if not enough to describe my tiny experience. I'm the noobest noob, I don't know a single thing about games. Add that English is not a language I have learned at school, it explains my blundering all the time and I beg you to pardon me for that...
So thanks again many times for your welcome
