Allow me to get ahead of myself. What would you like to see as the next contest after ACSC and HSC? - PTC
- Mini Game Contest
- Green Map Contest

PTC perhaps, followed by MGC. I'm not sure what a Green Map contest is?

I'll second that. Green Map as in blank?
I'd like the PTC, personally. I'm not a big fan of mini-games. However, a miniature map contest would be cool. We did one at AoEH and it was a great success, because it took less effort to make a tiny map.

I'd like something that would encourage the use of campaigns instead of scenarios for once. I can't remember any such contest, if their even was one.

Same as the others, I'd like to know what a greenmap is ... Not a Saint Padraig's story I presume? Then...gardens ? green countries ? If yes, I'd like to have sth like that. (Great fan of Nature and Botany)

The Historical Campaign Contest only got one entry. Out of 80-something that signed up.
A Green Map Contest is where map design is not judged, with the emphasis on playability and balance. The use of different terrains is severely restricted.

A PTC or Minigame Contest. I probably won't be able to stand a competition with gameplay as main focus, designing the map and writing the story are the best bits of scenario designing Besides, another MGC would give me an opportunity to make a My Fort - My Empire sequel/spin-off/carbon copy.

I'm going to have to say I want to see another PTC. I would like to have a go at defending my crown.
A GMC would be interesting though, in my opinion. And don't forget you could always add in map design afterwards and re-release. The different approach might mean something actually gets done.

Problem is that a playable, and well balanced cpx takes months to complete (at least for me, clumsy-slug-designer). After that you get 250 downloads or so, (unless you're well known already) and NO feedback at all. No way to improve, then. So that pretty disheartening, and I do not think I'm about to do that again, sorry.

Sissi, don't think that way. If you publicize it well in the community and it really is something original and refreshing, people will download it.
Besides you shouldn't be designing for the purpose of getting maximum downloads. For myself I value comments a lot more.

I value both comments and downloads, yet I am appalled to see that my "2475" has twice as many downloads as "The Siege", even though The Siege has been in the blacksmith two more years adn has 0.3 higher rating.
Lotr really boosts them downloads.

Jatayu, I don't care for so many downloads, it's to show the proportion downloads / comments : 250 downloads BUT 0 comment. Because, for me, a comment that only says " Yeah, great' is certainly pleasant, but of no use at all if you need advices. And I badly need them, being a beginner. I suppose you agree with that ? (I'm so sorry you think I'm that vain and futile. ) That's real feedback I'm caring for. I'd like to learn more, and improve. That's all. As to publicising my own stuff, I don't like it at all. I just can't do that. It's kinda conceited and selfish, I think. You cannot imagine how hard it is for me to ask for sth, so I've always spent days testing and retesting , alone, my own stuff. So do I for everything in real life, I manage my job alone. I'm aware that people have enough of their own problems to solve, I'd rather don't bother them as much as possible. Moor Goat, I'd rather die than calling one of my cpx LOTR, or using the words : Blood, Kill, Slaughter, etc... in it.

I would like to see another MGC, followed by the PTC, and then a GMC.
Also, regarding comments/downloads, I think I'd rather post a thread in the forum for feedback if I absolutely need it, for obvious reasons (more instant replies, less censorship, etc.)

Mmmm... A thread just for feedback, too selfish, again. And Tanneur's censorship is (imo) a very good thing, not an annoyance at all. Have a look at the constant spamming, trolling, bickering and harsh words in the forum...

Personally, the sole reason why I value reviews highly is because of the constructive comments that they bring, which serve as my guidance as how to improve my work. I don't give a damn about the score. It's only a number -- it doesn't mean a thing. That's also why I tend to showcase my projects, I enjoy seeing people's thoughts.
Sounds like something I will never participate, or even think about participating. The idea is slick, yet ridiculous in my part.

I would disagree about reviews being just numbers, but seeign as how standards have risen a lot over the 10 something years, I guess I must agree. The King's Best Men, for example, wouldn't get anything above a 4.4 or so these days.

Ah, but the question is, would the general population consider it too selfish? It just varies among people, and it'd be like any other "how is this?" thread.

er...Not too sure when you see stuff like this with scores like that : aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=8531 sorry for being harsh but this makes me scream... 1° For several reasons I'm not 'the man in the street'. 2° I'm afraid it's a matter of personal education, I just can't do that.

Of course, especially since it's a cut-scene and gets one auto 5 anyway.

Matty, Basse or Sly, can any of you confirm whether are plans afoot for a PTC this year?
And if yes, whether it's going to have a restrictive theme or absurd restrictions.

Me too. *sigh* I *think* there are, but it hasn't been discussed much (so I can't answer the second question). And seeing morgoth's name with the title "HG Angel" is... somewhat scary.

If' I'd become an HG angel, HG wouldn't BE there for long.

How many SWS members are in the TTC, this time? As far as I know, there's Basse, Julius, Jatayu, Andan, and no one else?

Well I'm the only one who has submitted an entry so far (I think?), so it'll be a success if we even manage those you've named.
There is also of course you.

So far Julius' entry seems to be the best. Watsons entry is also pretty close aswell. Edit: Why do I have 3 stars under my name?
