I was going through a few older threads the other day in search of a post and I noticed how naive some of my older posts (i.e. 2007) were, some of which I found humorous, others I found incredibly idiotic, and from there, I started reading my old threads.

Whenever I read older topics, I quite often stumble on my old posts. Basically, anything from 2006 sounds idiotic. 90% of everything from 2007 sounds idiotic. By 2008 that number's 50%, and from that it gets better.

Query: do those stats hold true now that another two years have passed?

Some of them do. 2008 and onwards look sillier in the rearview mirror, but it's nothing compared to the awful ol' days.

When I occasionally stumble on ancient posts I always find it a very strange feeling. There's something weird about seeing an old conversation perfectly preserved, and hearing your old self narrate those cringey sentences.
In a way, for me parts of the internet capture the same feeling of extreme age that reading about ancient Babylon does. The difference is that 1998 is beyond ancient for the internet while in the real world it's virtually current affairs.

I always feel stupid reading anything I wrote years ago as well. Mostly because the import of those conversations is now long lost. I'm sure in a couple years everything I say now will also seem self important and immature, because most of the internet kind of is.

Yeah, definitely a lot of what I wrote I just cringe at the sight of, especially during the whole Dantares affair years back.
