Possibly this could have confused the mechanics quite a bit?
Perhaps it's vulnerable to really rapid changes of ownership. I'll make it more robust in an update.
Uhh... How would you define "besieged"? Stationing troops en masse outside places like Nottingham and Durham? And what do the carts do if I were to utilise them?
It's all described in the Objectives panel. Or at least, I hope it is.
The enemy at Nottingham also tend to pile up near the gates so it's a nightmare to try and get in.
This is how it's supposed to be. I wanted the enemy cities to defend themselves quite well.
I find Knights to be a secondary countermeasure if the enemy were to overwhelm my defences (trundling out hordes), as the powerful crossbowmen (and their spearmen friends) tend to take them all out in offensive battles.
They're actually very handy if you don't use them in isolation. Spearmen lack firepower when going on the offensive.
Also, there seem to be a lot merchant carts staying idle along the countryside. Are they reserved for purposes like trading with Durham or stuff once captured, or have they fulfilled their commands in the game? I'm seemingly running out of gold quite quickly and I could make some quick money by killing them, but I wouldn't if they were planning on giving me gold.
In theory they keep on moving endlessly. In practice war disrupts them, which was something I was going to fix but then I decided it made some sense. If they're just standing still they're not going to give you any more gold unless you kill them.
Also, are you actually running out of gold? On Standard you have a torrent of income. If it runs low, simply going on the defensive should allow you to build up a good warchest in a little while.
