I finished The Mandalorian the other day. I wasn't crazy keen on episodes 5 and 6 (although they were still quite engaging and overall good--just not quite on the level of the first 3-4), but 7 and the finale brought things back into form.
Disney is continuing to make Force abilities ever more ridiculous, though. Also, given how meticulous and efficient Mando is in all of the other episodes, it's inconceivable that he didn't take a quick jaunt over to the TIE wreckage and confirm whether or not Gideon was dead. As a viewer, I'd have been much more satisfied if he had done so and found the cockpit empty--but apparently there's something significant about that lightsaber that he used to cut his way out and they probably wanted to have a scene showing that.

I largely agree with your thoughts on it.
It's definitely not perfect, but then that shows you how bad the movies are. Just simple star wars stories with a few mildly l interesting characters are great entertainment.
I'm really interested to see where they take the main two characters, there is a lot of potential there with baby Yoda's storyline and the entire Mandalorian lore.
On another note, anyone watch The Witcher?

Well, Moff is making good on his promise to write a story about the birth of Baby Yoda for the writing competition, so you are definitely getting more of that!

I binged it around New Year's. It had its ups and downs, although for what it's worth they pulled off the non-linear narrative really well. I've never read the books (apparently they have a massive cult following in Poland, where the author hails from), but I found it pretty cool how the story uses Slavic mythology as a base for its world, for a change.
What absolutely makes the show for me is Jaskier the bard, though. His dynamic with Geralt is great, every scene he's in is clever, and his behavior is actually kind of historically realistic. I was just chatting with a friend the other night about how series such as Vikings and The Last Kingdom totally missed the opportunity to include a skáld or sċop, respectively, as a recurring character. It's a rather key role historically and has serious entertainment value.

I haven't seen The Witcher yet, but I intend to, if I can find the time in between 47 new AoK projects, writing a novel and (relatively) soon going back to work. My brother saw it, though, and he thought it was okay. His main takeaway was that the guy playing Geralt looked like he didn't really want to be there, but the paycheck was good, so I am trying to keep my hopes contained!

Interesting. This article seems to suggest the opposite I don't know the game at all so I can't confirm, but apparently he plays it a ton and tried to emulate the cold, dry nature of the game character in the show.

Huh, interesting! I will have to see for myself then. Have not played the game either, or read any of the books, but I have heard enough about it to like the concept.

In a bit late with this... I haven't seen the last Star Wars film yet, but massively enjoyed the Mandalorian. That's not to say it's perfect, but I feel it's very much on the right path of just being Star Wars again. They're not trying to be special or cool making this, but simply telling a story in a way where every aspect of the film compliments one another - the music, setting, characters and overall fun and engaging story. I find the new movies... disappointing. But at least The Force Awakens had potential, which was kind of thrown out the window with The Last Jedi. It reminds me all too well of Piece by Piece where no one really knew or even gave a damn about where the story was going. As for the Witcher, again far from perfect but shows a lot of promise. There's lots of interesting elements and as soon as the story gets to a certain point suddenly it all starts to come together in a nice fashion. Eagerly looking forward to the next season and where they can take this. I had doubts on Geralt of Rivia but the actor carried the performance very well.
