You might want to specify for as a player and as a designer.
I prefer to make fiction, but I tend to like anything other than full blown fantasy as a player. And even then, it's not a morbid aversion.

I can't well understand "realistic fiction", but I think that's what I'd prefer.

Realistic fiction would be something like Ulio. It's not based on real life events, but there's no dragons or elves or what have you.

Realistic fiction, no second thoughts.
In historical scenarios you know the outcome (unless made of very little known event) so this cuts the entertainment. Also, it's very tiring to read 2 pages of history section which is usually told in neutral and non-attractive tone. Rather I'd play than read what is told in there.
In historical fiction all extra outcomes, being lies, bother me.
I'm very keen when it comes to cliches and where they are used most, are total fantasy scenarios. I think they are crap because I don't know any, where the creator would have succesfully conveyed his imagination to the player. Especially horrible they are, when the creator hardly even uses his imagination and takes all themes from Tolkien or other over-used sources.

I tried to address this in my HSC entry. The event is obscure enough that pretty much no one will know how it ends. I also tried to convey the history through a cutscene with plenty of sound effects to make it more interesting.
