It was a typical day for the new user, Dave; he had just recently purchased his new IBM ThinkPad 760E with an impressive Intel Pentium Processor and 1.08 GB hard disk drive and now used it daily for work procedures and leisure, playing video games and reading Age of Empires Heaven. As the release of Windows 98 passed, so did Dave's request to upgrade his PC. The next week, he purchased the Windows 98 upgrade CD, and tried to upgrade his Thinkpad, only to be presented with a blue screen of death. After rebooting, he noticed that a few of his documents and pictures were missing. The misplacement of his documents progressively became worse within the passing weeks, entire folders being deleted. It was only a matter of time before Dave's core system files would be corrupted.... Rules and ProceduresWindows 95 Dethy Mafia is just like any other mafia game, but with a twist. There are five files (players), four of which are operating correctly (pro-town) and one which is corrupt (mafia). Each of the pro-town players are cops with varying traits: sane, insane, naive, and paranoid. Read this for a rundown on each of these positions. The point is to use infallible logic to catch the mafia and save Windows 95 from corruption! NOTE: Each player was assigned a role randomly and a new name for them, with no correlation to any of the roles. Do not try to find the mafia based on that person's new name. - This thread is closed communication; do not talk to other players about the game via any other means. - Nights last 48 hours; be sure to check this thread daily for any new actions and results. - There will be no nolynch votes; if you cannot choose someone to lynch during the day phase, a random victim will be chosen. - All cops must send a night action during each night. If you do not, a random user will be inspected for you. - You may inspect yourself. - Do not edit your posts. Current Running Processes2. Julius (defrag.exe) - Mafia Recycle Bin1. Matty (explorer.exe) - Pro-town 3. Jatayu (regedit.exe) - Pro-town 4. Watson (fdisk.exe) - Pro-town 5. joshua4missions (rundll32.exe) - Pro-town Julius (mafia) has won, so congrats to him.

Bah, I'm hopefully getting a new thinkpad within the next year. Also, as an additional resource, this should push anyone in the right direction for starting the game.

Since the OP doesn't show on every page, I will just post the new advancements in the game under the banner. It was 6:00 in the morning on this lovely Saturday; Dave woke from his sleep, pushed himself to his desk, and opened his Thinkpad. His hands greasy from touching his hair, he pressed the button marked with the ON symbol, only to be greeted with the Scandisk screen. His wife walked into the room with coffee at this time. "How long will this program take?" she asked. Absolutely sure of himself, Dave replied, "Five Microsoft minutes." "How long is that?" "Nobody knows." It is now Night 0. All cops, send in the person you would like to investigate via PM within the next 48 hours. Do not discuss the game until night is over.

Dave was brought to the logon page, at which he sat there dumbfounded. How could he have forgotten his password at this hour? Sure, it was written down somewhere hidden, but finding it would take too much time. Five minutes later, he decided to just click the button marked Cancel and was brought to his desktop.* *This actually happens. It is now Day 1. You may start discussing and trying to figure out who is playing the mafia. There are five players, so three to lynch.

Turty can you explain the rules of the game again? I got confused.

It's just like any other mafia; all the townies try to lynch the mafia and the mafia is the last one trying to survive. The difference in this game is that all the townies are cops of varying types (sane, insane, naive, paranoid), and the point is to find the mafia using logic rather than just playing the game.
To start, it would be wise if everyone shared the results they found on specific players overnight.

So, innocent people are police, and guilty people are mafia?

That is correct, but you have to remember the different types of cops located here.

Okay, so how would people communicate with each other, for all the town knows they could talk with a mafia mem about who to lynch. Is it a chance they have to take.

Everyone communicates via this thread and only this thread. There is going to be one mafia member with whom you will be talking.

Whoops! having never played a mafia game before, it led me to think that there were two mafia members and three townies, but I forgot that there were four different police guys as well.

I still don't understand half of it. I have sent you a message ( to prevent spoilers ).
So we can lie about whatever info we got during the night? Or we can choose not to say?

You can lie about your information or choose not to say anything if you want.

So the mafia guy is all...alone. :S So basically the police can't tell who anyone is(except through investigation) so that everyone is a suspect. I think I may understand the basic of the game now.

Okay, I'll lead to help sift through confusion...
I'm saying I'm a cop. Obviously, I could be the mafia and just be claiming cop, so that's where you have to try to deduce whether I'm full of it on not.
But I'm a cop, and I investigated Watson. I got Guilty back. Now if I somehow knew I was the sane cop, we could vote out watson and the game would be over. But I've no clue. Here are the options:
I'm sane, Watson is guilty I'm insane, Watson is innocent I'm paraniod, Watson could be guilty or innocent I cannot be naive, as I got a guilty for Watson.
So without even hearing from the rest of you, I've elliminated one of 4 cop roles for myself. I haven't learned anything about Watson, but when I compare it to other information I'll know more. If I survive, my next result will remove another role (if I get a guilty, I can't be sane, If I get an innocent, I can't be paranoid).
It'd help if the rest of you post results as well. Keep in mind one of the five of us will be lying.

What if all five are lying? Or is it mandatory for cops to tell the truth?

Ah, thanks for clearing that, Matty! A roll of dice led me to investigate Julius999. Investigation results are: Sane: Julius is Innocent.Insane: Julius is Guilty.Paranoid: Julius is Guilty.Naive: Julius is Innocent. So this can tighten questions about my role: Sane Insane ParanoidNaive Am I doing it right?

Umm, not sure. What was your result? Looks like you got innocent, which eliminates paranoid.. The result's really all we need to know, I'm just explaining what we can take from them with my previous post. Also Jatayu, cops could all lie, but why would they want to? The goal is to work together to catch the scum.
