A day late, but better late than never I remember I had a better poll question somewhere in my brain, but I cant seem to find it. You'll have to survive this one for now

lol, Basse, weird poll. Most certainly not! My knowledge on computers and technology is absolutely zilch! I care not about technology in that regards, although I love watching films and having awesome surround sound. Anyway I really only use computers for homework and games, but then who doesn't? This is the 21st Century! Nonetheless I am just as enthusiastic playing footy or cricket with friends and family and/ or being outside in general than designing. Gotta love the outdoors. I remember my older brother, who likes to consider himself a he-man, saying I was a semi-nerd simply for designing scenarios. I called him an idiot.

Even though scenario designing is one of my favorite hobbies at the moment, I can't call myself a nerd about it. Consider that I'm the type of guy who never dedicate himself to something so much, that he forgot his true purpose in life. ;D

I don't think anyone has ever, ever called me a nerd. And they're right, mostly.

Some people call me a nerd because I seem to dislike today's crap music. I don't get it.

I haven't been called nerd thanks to my music style, but I certainly have a different taste compared to the majority of people I know (especially in school ) My favourite bands and artists are Dschinghis Khan, Daler Mehndi, Roger Pontare, Weird al Yankovic, Edvard Grieg, Carl Orff, Hans Zimmer, Phil Keaggy and Ennio Morricone (a few others as well, but I cant think of any more right now). The styles I dislike most - or hate - are any kind of metal, most kinds of rap and hip hop, most of modern pop and so on.

Music, eh? Ennio Morricone (good choice Basse), Prokofiev, Mozart, Saint-Saens, Respighi, Ravel, Burt Bacharach, John Barry, Beethoven, the Kinks, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi spring to mind. Eccentric.
You know, if you're nice to people they'll never call you a nerd, however old-fashioned your music tastes are.

When I say "crap music", I mean today's rap, hip-hop that sound like a kindergardener could have made it (besides the lyrics). I suppose that is true, but most of the people at my school are the ones that think they're really cool, but I couldn't care less about them. There's about five people in my school who actually has some individual thought.
Or they could call me a nerd because of my acne or my superiority. Who knows? But I am not a nerd.

Cause of your acne? That's just... illogical

Hip hop or rap is not crap music. Why I am not one for that kind of music, but hearing Where is the Love, Ghetto Gospel and Changes has really made me be open for all kinds of music. Still, alot of it is a bit repetitive, ain't it? By the way, I love old music and so do many others around me. I have never heard one be called a nerd for his choice in music, a person with 'bad tastes' maybe. Don't get me started on music! Ennio Morricone, James Newton Howard , Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer , Klaus Badelt, Steve Jabronski , Jeremy Soule , Joe Hisaishi , James Horner , etc, etc, etc... (to name those who compose for games or films)

Nah, I don't think I'm a nerd....though I do have some unusual hobbies/pastimes (probably becuase they're not done so much anymore). For example, I like blacksmithing, and I've also begun work on making a chain-mail hauberk. I guess I'm just generally interested in finding out how things used to be done - primarily without the aid of today's power tools etc. Now I'm not one of those persons who objects to all things tecnological, if it makes things easier and quicker, then by all means! I just like finding out how things were done before the advent of more 'modern' methods. Hmm as for music, I think Julius and Mashek have covered most of the composers that I like. However I'd like to add Michael Kamen (Band of Brothers) - I very highly recommend that if you can get your hands on it! Also Patrick Doyle, who wrote the Eragon soundtrack. Sure, the film may have not been to everyone's liking, but the music is good. Yes Morricone definitely! Love the theme from 'Once upon a time in the West.' 'Ecstasy of Gold' was good too. Also, Albinoni, Corelli, Randy Edelman, and for some strange reason, I'm into Russian Balalaika music at the moment. I also am not partial to rap/hip-hop/making noise by banging and yelling. I remember an analogy that one of my instructors once used: 'If you can't whistle the tune, then it isn't music.' Of course it helps if you can whistle to begin with. Julius, do you have any particular favourites from John Barry? I have the 'Dances with Wolves' soundtrack which is excellent.

Von, yes I like the Dances with Wolves tunes too. Some of my favourite John Barry scores are from his work with other films, he did a lot of James Bond stuff for example. For this reason I can't name many, although I can usually recognise his dramatic style.

Well, I like most of Hans Zimmer's and some of John William's film scores. But I'm more into japanese composers, like Kitaro, Yasunori Mitsuda, Nobuo Uematsu, among others.

Koji Kondo? I believe he did some composing for the Legend of Zelda game. I must admit I like the 'Main theme', even though I never really played it much.

Yes, watching Band of Brothers, I did enjoy the music. I'll give it an eye. Right now I really want the 'Invincible' score/ soundtrack. The film starred Mark Walhberg and dealt with the Philedelphian (sp?) eagles. The music is an absolute joy, real feel good stuff. I'll probably have to order it in, but I want to know if it has the music I want before I buy it. Dances with Wolves is a phenomonal film (of course I've only seen the extended edition). I'd love to get my hands on the score. So what are people's five most favourite scores? Mine are The New World, The Thin Red Line, The Last Samurai, Braveheart and Return of the King. Of course there are many others, but only to name a few.

Batman Begins score is phenomanal, the themes, the tunes! Also, the Blood Diamond score by James Newton Howard is unreal. I love the African quoirs he puts in the last few tracks. Also the Power of One score by Hanssie Zimmer, absolutely beautiful stuff! Guys, if there's one thing we are all nerds in, it's alternative music!

Haha, I don't know. I just sort of accumulate the stuff when I hear something I like.

Same. Mashek, I don't know if you have a 'JB Hi-Fi' store near you, but I find it to be a particularly good place for locating scores that aren't so well known or aren't that recent. That was where I managed to pick up my 'Dances With Wolves' score. Band of Brothers I got off eBay, but boy was it an endurance test! The trouble was, a couple weeks after I bought it my sister found it at the aforementioned store... go figure. Some other scores I don't mind include: Saving Private Ryan, Last of the Mohicans (Julius, I used some music from this on that 'Prison Escape' scenario), Gettysburg, Dragonheart, Hunt for Red October, and probably many more.
