Credits to Turty (Mr Filch ) for this week's poll. How did Age of Kings, AoKH (alternatively HeavenGames) and StormWind Studios influence your life?

Well it has certainly taken up quite an amount of my spare time. But what I think is best about AoK - especailly the editor - is that it gives one a creative outlet for one's imagination, something that I think is important. (Pus it's set in one of the period's of history that I'm interested in. ) It's kind of astonishing to think that I've been at HG for about 2 years now. Where did they go??

Correction, it's negative connotations for what it has done to my life: seeing as I am doing a professional writing course designing takes away all creative energy I may have, so that when it comes to writing I'm all out of ideas and mood.

Designing and playing scenarios has actually increased and widened my imagination and I've thought more than once "Hm, I wonder how Ulio would be as a book" and the like. Many ideas I use for campaigns are going to become books of mine in the future, for example ADOC (though heavily modified), Jones Blond and another one that hasn't been released yet.
AoK has been part of my life since I first played the AoK demo, at age 6. That's about 60% of my life. It has been a great experinse, and so has AoKH, even if I haven't been there at all as long as I've been playing AoK.

Soon to become the subject of a lawsuit, that's how. Seeing as how it's based off the play Oedipus Rex.

It's based on a play? Wow, I must've missed a lot

Actually, Ingo is right in using the play. The author is long over 3,000 years dead. Copyright lasts only 70 years I think after the author is dead. After that you can plagiarise all you like!

Whatever the case, it is still a great scenario.
I told you Basse to use this one!
Anyway, it seems that AoK has given me a new hobby and something to relieve my perpetual anger (I am serious).
AoKH made me realize that some of my friends were just using me for some reason, and have allowed me to humiliate them in public (which is good).
SWS is very calm, and almost feels like a quiet town where everybody knows everybody else (another stress-reliever).

I find it pays to have a few hobbies to keep you busy. I reckon that's the trouble with a lot of the teenagers these days, they don't have anything to do (whether they try to find something to do or not questionable) and so out of boredom become little terrors. Whereas if they played more AoK and did more designing, the world wouldn't be burdened with such troubles... I reckon that any hobby that involves making things are excellent, when you've completed a project, you can feel proud about it, knowing the effort that you have placed into making it. Woodwork/Metalwork/Models/even craft are all excellent for taking up your time and having something useful as the result of your efforts. Designing is in many ways very similar: you put time and effort into it, planning (sometimes ), you need patience and endurance and you have something that you can be proud of as the finished product. But yes it is calm here, and I'm glad that it helps you Turty. It's just a pity we don't have a nice cottage garden to stroll through. Well, you learn something new every day. Now I will have to read that play! I'm guessing it's Latin, so would that literally read, "King Oedipus"?

Yes, if you translated it you would get "Oedipus the King" or words to that effect. It was written by Sophocles and was, if I remember rightly, the first in a trilogy.
I probably wouldn't have noticed the link (apart from the Oedipus plot device of killing your father and marrying your sister) if Ingo hadn't actually mentioned it somewhere. Apart from that central aspect pretty much nothing is kept the same.

AOKH influences me to an extent in which I even bother playing such an old game. Had it not existed, I'd be spending most of my time in real-life. ;D SWS is a comfortable, little neighborhood. The people there are all nice, helpful, and great designers. I have so much to learn from all of you, and I thank you for that. Joining SWS has made me more optimist that AOK is yet to be dead. As long as there are devoted people like you folks, AOK shall live.
