More precisely, the island of Kòs in the south-east part of Greece. We left last Friday, going to Skurup Airport in Copenhagen and flew down to the island. The flight took almost four hours and once we were at the hotel it was past ten o'clock in the evening.
Since the hotel we were supposed to live in had been over-booked, we lived in a smaller hotel in the village of Tigaki on nthe northern coast. Tigaki is not a common place for Scandinavians to go to, pretty much every other tourist we saw was either British or German. We never went with any of the activities organized by the charter company, we decided all by ourselves where to go, which was much funnier. We went to taverns and restaurants every evening, eating Greek and other kinds of food, from souvlaki (grilled pieces of meat) to Tikka Masala. Most of the time it costed as much as a meal had done at McDonalds, so it was cheap, yet delicious.
Apart for eating we did the regular sunshine-vacation things, i.e. swimming in the sea, pool, sunbathing and went to various shops. It was fun to see all the fake clothes, sun glasses etc. Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, all made of 99,9% plastic (sun glasses now) and at a cost of 6€. Some were laughably bad fakes but others looked real, from a distance. But unless you were extremly careful they fell apart after a day or two.
We spent most of the time in Tigaki, at the hotel, the pool and the beach. We went to Kòs Town one day, visiting an old fort of The Knights of Saint John and old ruins. We were supposed to go by boat to Turkey, the city of Bodrum, last Thursday but my mother had been bitten by lots of mosquitos on and near her feet, the bites infected, she couldn't walk long distances and thus we cancelled that trip. We did go to the village of Zia, a small village on the side of a mountain. It had some of the best views I've ever seen, and the village itself was beautiful.
There was an internet café near the hotel where we sent a few emails home, to my dad, who stayed home in Sweden. I went in here and at AoKH once or twice, quickly reading through some of the content, but other than that I didn't go on the net last week, which was quite relieving. My oldest younger brother started missing his computer halway through the week but he wasn't allowed to take his flight home earlier
So finally, some photos from the trip. Not many but some of the best;
Food onboard the plane, more disgusting than ever before
The pool, just outside our appartment/hotel room
A church on the way up to Zia
Castleyard, the castle of the Knights of Saint John
Part of the castle
The ruins of an agora, near the castle
A field right next to our hotel, shown in the background
And, lastly, for Turty. The only McDonalds we could find on the island
Not an overly long report but that'd be the most important parts. Finally I can recommend The Templar Legacy, a thriller novel by Steve Berry, which I started reading during the trip. Dan Brown-style story but, so far, without any direct conspiracy theories, and action from the very first page
