Ick. Coffee. >_> I don't know, coffee always had that yucky flavor. I couldn't drink more than 2 sips. Any warm drink is fine, just not coffee. Seriously, what is the appeal? Von, yes we do have those caffeine drinks, unfortunately. Never had one myself, though.

The taste ain't yucky, it's fantabulous Except for the taste, there's also the fact that it makes you alert, and it goes well to bread and cookies, making it perfect for both breakfast and afternoon tea... or afternoon coffee

Ah , holy Food....I like so many things ! . crayfish, sea urchins, caviar, lobster... . Haggis . Sushis, Makis... . 'Steak Tartare' (raw hamburger with kinda mayonnaise) and Carpaccio . Spare ribs . a good roast beef - without mint sauce and rare, please. . T bone. Impossible to find that here alas. . Goose liver.
Well, I'm mostly carnivorous. But I never say no to : . Baklavas . Devon's Cream Tea . Chocolate... . Apfelstrudel . Halva (nut perfume) . Kulitch (traditional russian Easter cake)
And of course, French wine, Turkish coffee, and Darjeeling tea.
I just wonder how I can remain that thin with those anti Low-fat meals... It's very strange. The medias are taking the mickey out of us with that 'eat veg, fruit and grass' thing , for sure.

I like kebap (iskender is my favorite) and meat generally (red & white). I don't really eat that much veggies or fruits, but I love the salad I make (mm-mm, Mediterranean recipe). Me and my friend are students, so naturally what we usually eat is minced meat & pasta. I also eat a lot of dairy products (quark, cottage cheese), I love milk & they have protein. Thank God for MultivitaTabs! I like to have a Turkish coffee / mint green tea with honey & lemon juice in the afternoon.
I like mineral water, Raki and orange&lemon&carrot -juice. Even though I drink beer, I don't really enjoy it, but it is cheap. There's this thing called Gin Long Drink here in Finland, which is one of my favorite alcoholic drinks, but unfortunately it's not known elsewhere in the world. =/ My favorite drink must be Menthe-Fernet, which is made of Menthe Liqueur (sp?) and Fernet-Branca.

OMG Fernet -Branca ? But that tastes like medicine, and that's for old ladies with nausea ! And is it really possible to find that stuff outside France and Italy ?

I don't know, but we have it here. I work at a pub and it seems to be relatively popular. Anyway, the point here is that Fernet's bitterness and Mint Liqueur's sweetness combine in an excellent way. Don't judge it if you haven't tasted it. (2cl liqueur & 2cl Fernet + 2 ice) [q]Gin Long Drink? we have plenty of those here, rather weak taste to be honest. [/quote] Yeah, I'm actually planning a trip to Estonia for some more booze. We went there in the beginning of December but student life is tough for your alcohol storage. And GLD is THE king of supersoft alcoholic drinks (with supersoft I mean about 5 - 10% alcohol). Let's compare the consumption of 12x0.33L SS drinks. From my personal experience, after forementioned amount of beer you feel like you have eaten a very heavy meal. You can't tell whether you are slightly drunk or just so full that you feel "tucky". Also, the first bathroom trip after you've started drinking beer is the gateway to "taking a leak after every bottle" -phase. Rather annoying. And warm beer is simply horrible (I'm talking about lager). After a beer-based evening (starting with beer and moving on to harder drinks) I tend to...well, nevermind, we have women around. Beer is the most socially accepted drink at least in Finland. Cider on the other hand (sweet ones like perry, I don't really like dry ciders ) are so sugary that you really begin to feel sick after the 6th or 7th one. However, in a bar they put a lot of ice in the glass too, so it kind of makes the larger consumption easier. However, the hangover is terrible after a cider-based evening... Jesus Christ. Then there's the social pressure, cider is considered to be a girly drink. Smirnoff's, Breezers etc. taste good, but they are waaaay too expensive for someone with a budget like mine. If I was rich I'd naturally drink them - they're girly too but damn man, they do taste good. Gin Long Drink however is quite neutral-tasting, doesn't make your stomach heavy, doesn't make you piss every 15 minutes, is socially acceptable, it can be drunk even if it's warm, doesn't have an after-taste, and the hangovers after GLD-based evenings are easier on you. Also, it is simply the best drink if you have to take a hangover-sip. This would probably go on forever, so I emphasize that these are my own opinions based on my own experiences.

Well, I have simply developed a particular taste for beer, meaning it serves a non-alcoholic role. If I drink with the objective of becoming drunk, I drink Rum or Jagermeister. I know what you mean by beer going through your body fast, and it is rather annoying. Beer is unlike other light alcoholic beverages, indeed, since it actually makes you forget about eating, like ya said. Which is a good thing, since it fills your stomach temporarily. However, the downside to heavy drinking via beer is you can a) waste yourself from a six-pack and keep an athletic figure or b) consume an entire case of beer during a day for heavy drunkness, which also means you will eventually develop a might beer-belly. Which is why I drink beer for it's taste + alcohol. Say what you want, beer IS the best tasting alcoholic beverage(maybe some heavy liqours can contest this). All those weaklings who say beer tastes like horse-piss should drink some actual beer, instead of that mass-produced crap. Ah, home-beer. That is some heavy shite. My mother brought home a 1.5 litre HONEY beer. So it basically tasted like your average 10% pilsener with honey. A rather... unusual taste, but it takes a man down with startling speed. If you'll indeed come to Estonia soon, pick up some local stuff from the Sadama RIMI (Satama for you ). Only for the taste even. Saku Kuld is my personal favorite. Found this while searching how to spell pilsener. Awesome.

Dear ! A thesis about alcohol... I drink a tiny bit of alcohol perhaps 10 times a year, and never get tipsy because I don't like that feeling, and don't want to lose control. And the throwing up aftermath is certainly unpleasant... But what you said about beer is true : in Ireland, I saw some fishermen drinking 37 PINTS in one day. In the end they were all gathered into the loo, a glass in one hand and the **** in the other, non stop peeing, I suppose. How boring must be their life...

I have no problem with losing control in any way. Mainly because I'm a very friendly drinker. Too friendly, some would say.

Sometimes I have a Porter just for the taste. But as you said, mass-produced beer is crap, but it's cheap. For some reason I also like ginger-beer... It's hard to stop drinking once you've started. I don't know why...It's a Pringles effect, once you pop you can't stop. (I mean during a night out. I have yet to experience a 3-week streak) However, perhaps we should bring the emphasis back to food...It's getting a bit personal here. I'm ashamed that I don't like Turkish cuisine so much.

Food is a simple subject for me - the more meat, the better. I don't care for your fancy spices and junk, in fact, the only flavour giving things I add are usually chili and/or salt. Out of regional cuisines I love Georgian food. Great meat, great Puri bread, great wine.

Shrimp soup, anyone? Not sure I've ever tasted anything better.
I never drink alot of hard drinks because of taste. I drink them when I want to get drunk, but I never get drunk alone, that's lame. It's only amusing when you're with your buddies having fun.

Speaking of food, there's little that beats Italian food, especially lasagna and pizza (homemade, naturally). Except maybe grilled meat in the summer, in big loads. Yum yum

To be honest, there are some heavy drinks like rum or cognac which really taste good too.
As for italian food, it is not for me northener. I was in Italy for 2 weeks thhis summer, and well, it was so light! Not fat, no nothing.

Italian food not fat ? Jaysus Chrisss, where have you been !!! You should try : Tiramisu, Gorgonzola i Mascarpone (85% fat...), Osso buco a la Milanese, spaghetti a la carbonara, scampi friti-friti, etc... and Basse lasagne are certainly OK too... Yum, I'm hungry, now !

Of course, but I wouldn't start drinking them if the time was not favorable to get drunk no matter how good they tasted.

I mean real, meat-fat or whatever the english term is. Mostly italian food is just pussy grass eating, though they make great meat as well. Still nothing compared to the food I am used to, like taters with melted cheese on them, between being large pieces of bacon, together with maybe more meat, and some nice, black bread. I made myself hungry.
