I remember that a lot of people praised this tutorial at the time, and for quite a while afterwards. I personally never found it much use.

-For reference, here is the tutorial-I had to look it up again to remember, and personally I find it rather crap and all wrong. When you design a map, you don't think about the earth forming and then the trees and animals and so on. You think 'my city should be here' and 'enemy fortress should be there' and 'river should go this way and road that way' and so on and then make the map. Of course you should put down the terrain and gaia stuff before units but that's about how far it goes. About the only tutorial I ever had a use for is Scud's map design tutorial, which was awesome at the time and still is.

An interesting read, indeed. I really appreciate the time and efforts Boosh had put into making it, but I think it isn't very useful.
