Hey folks, Had a bit of a dingle today which is a shame as I had never been in an accident before. I stopped at a stop sign (naturally enough) and the bloke behind was watching the cars coming and for some reason thought I had gone. Anyway this was the result: img227.imageshack.us/img227/6757/p1010907xi6.jpgimg81.imageshack.us/img81/536/p1010911qh9.jpgimg401.imageshack.us/img401/3899/p1010917sk2.jpgAlas for me I now have to get onto my insurer and try and get something sorted out. Fortunately I have comprehensive cover so it shouldn't be too much trouble. Hopefully! On top of that I have to find some way of getting to work on Monday as currently it isn't really legal to drive the way it is. I was quite fortunate really. It was a high hit, so the boot lid is really the only thing damaged. Shassis is good and surprisingly, pretty much all the lights still work (apart from the right-hand reversing light). And noone was injured. So unfortunately I'm going to have to spend what time I would here and on AoK to get things going smoothy again. Regards Von.

Aye, I am still quite fond of the ol car. Put a lot of work (not to meniton money) into it during the 2 years I've had it. Managed to get the insurance sorted out today, and I'm trying to get tomorrow off work so I can take it in to the smash repairs.

Unlucky, Von. But at least it doesn't look like you'll have to scrap it, and you weren't injured, which is always the main thing.

My condolences for that unfortunate accident, Von. But on the bright side, you weren't injured, and the engine side wasn't the one that got smashed. Hope everything goes well with the insurance thing and all. Now that made me think twice about switching from bike into car as my means of transportation...

I'm sure you'd rather limp a couple of weeks instead of having a fracked car. I would.

Yes I thought that that as well, and you're right, having the car damaged is better than being in hospital. However, I took the car in to the smash repairers today for an assessment, and unfortunately due to the age of the car - '88 model Nissan Pulsar Vector GX 1.8L - and the current market price they deemed that the cost of repairs would be more than what the actual car is worth, so unfortunately for me it is a right-off. However, I did manage to get the insurance sorted out, and they were able to wave any excess so I should be able to get paid out the current value of the car. Not much, but it will help. Also I was very fortunate today to have a local car dealer come into the farm to buy some produce (we sell some from our shed) and he noticed the damaged vehicle and offered there and then to sell the car he was driving to me at a very reasonable price. Now I'll point out that the car isn't totally to my tastes and far bigger than what I require, yet it is still a car, and when one has no means of transport he takes what is given to him. So I'm going to test drive it to and from work tomorrow and I think I'll probably purchase it. Maybe, just maybe, a happy ending?

Yes it was rather old, though Jatayu's grandfather's car clearly outdoes it. It still ran very well, and the only major problems were aesthetic (apart from the exhaust which needed some repair). Well, today I managed to purchase a car that should suit my needs quite well. A Toyota Corolla Conquest '99 model. Only 77,000 kms on the clock and in very good condition. So at last, my life returns to normal, in a figure of speaking. *Exhales*

Hmm. I guess I just have a different standard for when cars are old. It's fairly unusual to see a car more than ten years old around here.
