I thought we'd try a little mafia game here. I know this failed before, but I thought if we were a little less ambitious it might work. It can work even with just a few players. What happens is, I assign all those who sign up a role. The two scum will work together to kill the town, while the town will work together to kill the scum. It's basically the most fun you can get from a forum game. If you do it right that is... Don't worry about learning how to play. It's really intuitive and you can learn as you go. It's not a big commitment either, you only have to check what's happening once every day or two. Alive:Basse Jatayu Matty Sly_Guy Dead:Von Roles in this game (Open Setup)Werewolf (work together to kill townies in the night, scum) x 2 Seer (investigates people to find out whether they are werewolves or not, pro-town) x 1 Villager (no power, pro-town) x 2 During daytime, everyone can vote. When a majority decision is reached, that person is lynched. Werewolves win when the Seer and both villagers are dead. Villagers and the Seer win when both werewolves are dead. Even if they themselves have been killed. Every night, each werewolf chooses someone to attack (even each other if they so choose). Two attacks on the same person kills that person (slight variation on normal mafia due to lack of players). Therefore if the werewolves both attack the same person that night, that person dies. If only one attack is made on someone, they are wounded. Rules1. Be nice, it's only a game. 2. No talking when you're dead. 3. No relevant discussion during night. 4. No quoting any messages I send you. Always paraphrase. 5. No communication about the game outside this thread, unless your role specifically allows is (ie you are a Werewolf) It is now Night 0Check your PM inbox for your role, and if you have a night action, send it to me in a reply.

I'll play if you're stuck for people, but give SWS members preference.

There's no limit on signups (within reason of course), so of course you can play. 48 more hours to give any more interested people a chance to sign up, then the game starts.

I will say "it is now day. There are X of you alive. It takes Y to lynch." This is where the main part of the game starts.
From that point you may all talk freely in this thread. To cast a vote, do it like this:
Vote: Julius
And if you want to change...
Unvote: Julius
You may vote as many times as you like.

Just to clarify, you can only vote for one person at a time. To change your vote, you must unvote the previous person.
Tip: If you suspect someone but don't want to vote for them (eg to stop the Werewolves speed-lynching a townie) a useful marker is FoS: Julius, which stands for Finger of Suspicion.

It is now Day 1 Von is dead. He was pro-town (I'm not telling you his role). With 4 alive, it takes 3 to lynch.
Special modified rule for 5 player game: If a Werewolf has 2 votes against them, the other Werewolf must finish off their companion by also voting for them. This prevents instant win for the Werewolves.
Of course, a Werewolf may want to vote for his partner before 2 votes are placed, to avoid giving himself away by being the last voter.
In a normal game, you would now know Von's role. However, as this has been modified to work for only 5 players (needs more really) you do not get to know this.
By the way, this is going to be a pathetically short game (basically over by the end of this game day). I'm hoping it will be more of a demonstration of basic principles than a proper game, so that more people are interested for next time.
Tips: 1. Townies, don't vote yet, but talk. If one of you votes for a fellow townie, the two Werewolves will vote for them too, lynching them and winning the game. 2. The town's only way to win is to lynch correctly today. Therefore it may be a good idea for the Seer to claim. 3. Remember, people can lie when claiming their roles. A Werewolf for example may claim as Seer to convince a townie to vote for the other townie. A townie lynch would swiftly follow. Which would then be a win for the Werewolves. It is not uncommon for two or more people to claim the same role, even when there is only one of that role in the game. 4. Of course, Von may have been the Seer. If that is the case the town will have to figure out the Werewolves some other way. Look for co-operation between players!

Unfortunately this game is over Basically, the seer (assuming von was not him), comes out and say look dudes, I am the seer. In addition, he knows at least one person's iddentity. Ok I am the seer. Jatayu is innocent as per my info last night. That means me and jatayu vote for a mutually determined werewolf. He goes tonight. The other goes tomorrow. Game over GG. FoS: Basse (and sly_guy)

Not totally over. For all the town knows, you're a Werewolf, and lying. The Seer could for example be Von, or he could have investigated Von, and thus not know anything useful anyway. Or someone else may also claim Seer and the town has no way of knowing who is telling the truth. You'll have to use better arguments than that. Definitely need seven people if I'm going to do this again though. Whichever way the game goes now it's practically over by the end of today.

Actually, yes, we have no way of knowing if Matt is a werewolf. Speaking of which I don't see how townies can win the game.
1. If we decide to lynch a werewolf today, the remaining werewolf will kill a person at night and then it'll be 1v1 and I don't know what happens then.
2. If we lynch a townie, then we're screwed because it'll be 1v2.
I suggest we lynch Basse and see.

I say we lynch Matty. Claiming to be the seer is obviously a good way to redirect attention.

Not true. Each Werewolf has only 0.5 of a kill (in this weird 5 player variant). The worst that can happen tonight if you lynch one of the scum, is that someone is wounded.
The Werewolf strategy was to kill someone last night, which has made everything hinge on the outcome of today. If they had wounded two people instead things would be different.

I'm here... just on the other side of the ocean from most of you guys. So, Matty's accusing Basse and myself of being werewolves, huh? Problem is, my role PM tells me that I'm a villager, not a werewolf. Which means that we've got ourselves a dilemma here. We've got Matty claiming that he's the Seer, and that Jatayu's innocent. If we assume that Matty *is* the Seer for a moment (and that his result was accurate), that would leave Basse and myself as werewolves. But, since I know I'm not a werewolf, this leads me to believe that Matty is lying. I'm of the opinion that Von was the Seer (Basse isn't, since Matty's directly accused him of being a werewolf, in which case Basse would have come forward with the truth - and Jatayu... well, I've just got a feeling he's just a villager), which leaves either Basse or Jatayu as Matty's partner-in-crime (doesn't matter now, but there will be a way to tell for sure tomorrow). Either way, nice try, Matty. Vote: Matty.
